Department of Basic Science

COURSE OVERVIEW

The module introduces you to the basic principles governing the behavior of bodies under the action of forces. It is a foundational module for science and engineering disciplines, and the curriculum is designed to bridge theoretical mathematics with real-world physical applications. The module covers essential concepts such as Units and Measurements, Vectors, Kinematics, Newton's laws of motion, Circular Motion and Gravitation, with emphasis on critical thinking, problem-solving and practical applications. You will learn how to analyze mechanical systems, perform calculations, and apply fundamental mechanical principles in engineering, technology, manufacturing, renewable energy, and related technical fields. Generally, the course is tailored to equip you with the skills that are fundamental for advanced studies in engineering mechanics, machine design, and other technical disciplines.

In this module, you will cover the following modules:

Module 1: Units and Measurements

Module 2: Vectors

Module 3: Linear Motion

Module 4: Newton's laws of motion

Module 5: Circular Motion
